Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

The Port Authority in conjunction with The American Association of People with Disabilities and the New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities hosted its first Disability Mentoring Day.  Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) is designed to bring students and job seekers with disabilities into to workplace where they can learn about various career opportunities.  Stephanie Lewis-Desire, Manager of the Port Authority’s Office of EEO Compliance, Diversity & Inclusion decided she wanted to make DMD more than just a one day experience. Stephanie took great pains to ensure that mentees were brought together with high ranking agency officials who could make hiring decisions.  It was Stephanie’s hope to make Disability Mentoring Day an intern program that would allow participants with disabilities an opportunity to truly learn about the Port Authority and to demonstrate their talents.
